3.2 Awards and Special Recognition

​NAEYC ACCREDITATION

SMDS received NAEYC accreditation in 2014 and reaccreditation in 2019. We are proud to offer a learning environment in which the students can learn and play safely while interacting, learning, and caring for their natural environment.

​LEED SILVER CERTIFICATION

Together with St. Margaret's Church, the Formation Building and SMDS facilities share a wonderfully efficient and open environment that contributes to healthy learning while saving energy and protecting our natural environment.

MONARCH WAYSTATION
We are a certified Monarch Waystation as of 2015. As part of our curriculum we have two native gardens on our grounds that help populate the monarch caterpillars. We raise these caterpillars to be monarch butterflies and then tag and release them so that they are able to migrate. 

CERTIFIED WILDLIFE HABITAT
We are also a certified wildlife habitat as of 2015. We have worked hard to create a sustainable outdoor area and gardens to ensure the protection and growth of our wildlife in our schoolyard habitat.

MARYLAND EXCELS
We are rated Level 5 on the Maryland Excels program through the Maryland State Department of Education. This is the highest rating that can be achieved through the state. 

FOOD DRIVES 
Each year we hold a food drive in October. The food is donated to the Light House Shelter in Annapolis.
